2010 Tim Horton's Brier

The Tim Horton's Brier is coming to town March 6th-14th!!!  Many volunteers will be needed and Mayflower Members have always stepped up to the plate when these events come to Halifax.  This is a great opportunity to get involved with your favorite sport and help your club as well.  For every volunteer that comes from the Mayflower a portion of the event profit is turned over to the club.  You can become a volunteer for the Brier at   http://www.seasonofchampions.ca/2010brier/volunteer_information.asp Past events such as the Olympic Trials, Scotties, National Mixed and previous Briers have all paid dividends to our club, not only financially but also raising the interest level of curling in the area resulting in increased membership at all of the local clubs.  Many items in our club have been fully or partially paid through monies received from these events such as paving the parking lot, new furniture in the upper lounge, junior rocks and the Aluma-Zorb ceiling.  This will be a great event so join in the fun.

NSCA Provincial Training Centre Application for the 2009-2010 Curling Season

Hello everyone! As this season winds down, many of you have already started your planning toward next season. In an effort to help support your high performance goals, the NSCA created a Provincial Training Centre based out of the Mayflower Curling Club in Halifax. The PTC has access to practice ice from mid August until mid April next season. Along with an extended on ice schedule, the PTC will also be working closely with Canadian Sport Centre Atlantic to offer 3 group Sport Psychology Seminars as well as 1 individual team session, one group Nutrition Seminar and a full year Fitness Plan that will be monitored closely by Exercise Physiologist, Emma Neupert. Emma has already put together a great Off-Season Fitness Plan so if your team is interested in joining the PTC for the 2009-2010 curling season, please email me so that we can get your team training now. We will be holding the Fitness Testing mid May at Dalplex once we find a time that works for the PTC teams involved.

The deadline for entries will be on THURSDAY, MAY 7th. The cost of membership will be $600 per team and this includes the coach and fifth if you have one. The membership will consist of 8 teams and the eight teams can be from any age category. If more than eight teams apply, the membership will be chosen based on past performances as well as the competitive plan that you have in place for next season.
